The Resource Center for Graduate Student External Support works with Graduate School New Brunswick students to assist them with identifying and applying for external grants and fellowships.
We offer the most comprehensive resource for graduate students to search for external grant and fellowship opportunities, the Chaser Funder Database (http://chaser.rutgers.edu/database/). Our database currently catalogues over 3800 fellowships and grants that will support graduate student work from early pre-dissertation research and language training to dissertation research and writing and postdoctoral research. Some of the competitions require the applicant to be a US citizen but many of the opportunities are open to our international students.
There are many funding opportunities specifically designed to support dissertation research overseas. Examples of some of these major fellowships include:
SSRC International Dissertation Research Fellowship (http://programs.ssrc.org/idrf/)
SSRC Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (http://programs.ssrc.org/dpdf/)
There are many funding opportunities in addition to the five listed above that will support graduate work overseas. Additionally, there are many funding opportunities that are not specifically for overseas work which may also be a valuable funding resource to support your work. To identity the many funding opportunities best suited for your research interests and funding needs, please visit the Chaser Funder Database (http://chaser.rutgers.edu/database/). Graduate School-New Brunswick students who would like assistance identifying funding opportunities or with their funding applications can request an appointment with a Fellowship Advisor in the Resource Center for Graduate Student External Support by visiting: http://chaser.rutgers.edu/info.html.
