Special Events Forum, Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
33 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

The Rutgers Center for European Studies will be hosting a lecture by Thomas Zeltner , former Secretary of Health for Switzerland with a response from David Mechanic, Director of the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research. In the mid-1990s, Switzerland went through a health care reform process similar to what the US is going through today. In 1994, Switzerland introduced sweeping reforms that assured universal coverage for its citizens, while keeping medical services and insurance in the private sector.  Our speaker was one of the primary architects of those reforms, and he will speak about lessons from the Swiss experience of pursuing universal health care coverage.  The talk is supported as a Signature Course event by the Office of Undergraduate Education, and undergraduates are encouraged to attend.
