Rutgers will be hosting Akin Adesokan, the well-known Nigerian novelist and African film specialist. Professor Adesokan, who teaches in Comparative Literature at Indiana University, is working on questions of transnationalism in African film, which he will address through an analysis of the work of Guinea Bissau's Flora Gomes. His talk is titled "Flora Gomes Does Battle with the Dead," and will be presented at 11:00 AM in Art History 100 (DC).
That evening, Professor Adesokan will also introduce a film in the "Reel Africa at Rutgers" series, Flora Gomes's Mortu nega / Death Denied (Guinea Bissau, 1988). The screening will be held in the Graduate Student Lounge on CAC at 7:00 PM.
