Talk Back with Film Producer Iris Morales

In the midst of the 1960s, the African American liberation struggle, protests to end the Vietnam War and the women's movement for equality, the Young Lords Party emerged to demand decent living conditions and raised a militant voice for the empowerment of Puerto Ricans and other Latino/as in the United States and for the independence of Puerto Rico.

A leading member of the Young Lords for five years and a life-long activist and educator, IRIS MORALES produced, wrote and co-directed the film “¡Pa’lante, Siempre Pa’lante! The Young Lords.” The award-winning documentary was broadcast on POV: the American Documentary public television series.

Co-sponsored with the Department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies and the Graduate Student Association.
